The meet group has been called the ‘world’s largest fake photo event’ after it staged a meeting in the Melbourne CBD to protest the Government’s digital data retention law.

The group says it has more than 7,000 members, and wants a new data retention regime that would protect their privacy.
The meet-up was set up on Tuesday night by an anonymous Facebook user.
It says he wants the Government to end the retention regime in place that restricts people’s access to their Facebook and Google accounts.
The Facebook group has a Facebook page with over 10,000 likes and over 200,000 followers, and has a message board and Facebook Messenger group.
The Meet Group’s members have created a group page and a Facebook group.
“We don’t want the Government or anyone else to take away our photos, so we created the Meet Group,” the Facebook user wrote in the group’s message board.
“Our goal is to show the Government that we can fight the Government on privacy with our pictures.”
The Facebook user says he created Meet Group to protest “data retention laws”.
“We’re not going to take the Government back to the dark ages,” the user wrote.
“This is just one of many things we’re fighting for, but we want the government to understand that we’re not here just for the sake of being there.”
The reason we’re here is so that you, the public, can be informed about this issue.
“The Meet group is currently on a protest march to Melbourne’s CBD, which began with a demonstration on the street.
The protest was quickly halted by police and the group dispersed before the event was able to move to a nearby park.
A Melbourne woman said she had never heard of Meet Group before but was “very interested” to hear more about the group.
She said the group had posted about how the Government was collecting photos of her, and she was concerned the law would be passed.”
I think it’s quite important for them to have some kind of transparency with the public about their own surveillance and how they’re using data,” she said.”
You know, if you have people out there that have photos of them, that you don’t have, it’s a real privacy issue.
“She said she was not sure if the meet-ups had been made in response to the Government collecting photos and other personal information from the people who attended.”
If it’s just people wanting to do their own thing and have their own private space, that’s their right, but if you’re making a public space that’s just for all to see, then that’s fine,” she told the radio station.”
But it’s really upsetting to me that it’s being done, because it’s obviously happening.
